Sure.

While Norway wasn't a founding member of the Global Guardians (because its original members were all part of the UN's Non-Aligned Movement and Norway was obviously a founding member of NATO) it did join very swiftly after the group's membership expanded in the early 70s.

It has had two champions who have been called "nasjonale heltinner" which I'm told means something along the lines of "national heroines". A more famous one whose fame has spread outside her homeland and one who is still much more homegrown. I'll quickly touch on the more famous one first since she's apt to come up more often.

Tora Olafsdotter AKA Is AKA Ice.

Olafsdotter's early years are clouded in mystery but she has ties both to the Norwegian Romani population and a hidden group of Homo Magi known as the Ice People, the working theory that she is biracial between the two. She spent large parts of her early years in both Germany and New Zealand before returning to Norway after the nation's slot on the Global Guardians was temporarily emptied.

Her time on the Guardians was ultimately brief, during the period when the Guardians had their UN funding cut in favor of the Justice League International, Ice (the Icemaiden) and fellow Guardian Green Flame (later Fire) joined up with the JLI where most of her career took place.

She's the most internationally known heroine from Norway by far as a member of the JLI where she ultimately laid down her life against the Overmaster. Though she has since returned to life and active duty.

Norway's home grown heroine however, one whose work is much more focused to WITHIN Norway itself.

Sigrid Nansen, formerly Isjomfru/Icemaiden, now Isbreen/Glacier

Nansen received their powers from an experiment at the behest of the Norwegian government, wanting to artificially duplicate the powers of the "Ice People" Homo Magi tribe that Olafsdotter came from.

Nansen's mother was a rather famous scientist who "volunteered" her child for the procedure. While at the time it was assumed Nansen herself was enthusiastic, it was later revealed that Nansen's mother was abusive, both towards her child's lack of scientific interest and lack of "popularity" with male suitors.

The procedure was a success, duplicating the Ice People's cryokinetic abilities, at the cost of dyeing Nansen's skin permanently blue. They were placed on the roster of the Global Guardians, becoming the group's first Norwegian member. They were placed in a rather infamous shear and revealing costume that only further exacerbated Nansen's body dysphoria. Memories from their teammates at the time recall them as depressed and withdrawn.

When Tora Olafsdotter was unveiled, Icemaiden resigned from the Global Guardians and took a several year long sabbatical. They didn't reemerge until after Ice was killed in the line of duty with the JLI. Reappearing and offering themself as replacement, Nansen revealed to the world that they were bisexual, the first openly queer member of the Global Guardians.

The Church of Norway publically condemned Nansen, JLI teammate Guy Gardener famously sent an official reply to the Church consisting of floating outside of the Church's headquarters for 6 hours beaming a large energy construct of a middle finger into all the windows.

They were rotated off active JLI duty after sustaining heavy injury in a battle against the alien Hyperclan, they remained active on and off for a couple years afterwards before being kidnapped by the Ultra-Humanite. The nature of the invasive procedures conducted during that time are not known but one can compare before and after pictures for themselves.

Nansen fell off the map for several years after that, eventually reappearing under the thrall of a villain named Minister Blizzard who was harnessing Nansen's powers for his own designs, Nansen having fallen into a spiral of self loathing about their powers and underlying body issues.

When they were finally freed from that situation, Nansen made two announcements. That they were now going by Glacier, rather than Ice Maiden And that they used they/them pronouns.

Since then, Glacier has returned to active duty on the Global Guardians, where they serve with distinction. As well as being seen among the company of the LGBT superhero support group known playfully as the "Justice League Queer"

Oh that tag referred to my fic A Swift Ascending. It’s currently on hiatus, but I am looking forward to getting back to it, when things are better.

In the fic, Fíli is trans and Dwarven society isn’t very open to that and a big factor is the role of Mahal as the Maker. I wrote something for that last year: here.

And since poor Fíli collects quite a lot of tragedies in the fic, one of the worst the events on Ravenhill, where Thorin and Kíli die, there is always this underlying feeling of being not only forsaken by his Maker, but also actively punished for not just playing the role society expected of him.

Though, it is fair to say that guilt in general is one of Fíli’s big themes in that fic, next to self-worth, identity and closeness to others.

3. What were their first impressions of each other? How does that compare to their impressions of each other now?

Seroh definitely felt intimidated by sigrid at first (especially after hearing all the stories about her from the others) but also mesmerized immediately i think ^_^ but not really in a romantic crush way id say. Just fascination

Sigriiddd probably was indeed a little annoyed by serohs presence at first just because she grew weary of most people ( that just made me think about the foils question from the other ask and made me realise that they both warmed each other up in one way or another ....) but! i think since seroh was a new face (maybe theyve seen each other before but in that town everybody probably knew that theres this new guy around) she was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt

6. Do they have any shared interests/hobbies? Do they ever do these hobbies together?

Ooohhh okay what i need to do is research some more what sort of entertainment people were up to in medieval times because i cant really think of much right now. In general i think of them both as quite creative people but maybe they dont really have an outlet for that. I think sigrid is a great storyteller (took that up from her parents) and loves to listen to new stories and recite them to others and ect ect. Not so sure about seroh yet. Something to ponder. In a modern au though they would definitely do all sorts of arts and crafts together. Wait omg... Seroh doing pottery or creating jewellery...oidjhhhh. i like that.

16. Is one of them keeping secrets from the other?Why? How would they react if the secret was revealed?

Ooooohhh boy thats literally part of their story. Although deeply underdeveloped as the whole story is.. basically sigrid is hiding that. Thing that she found in that cave . And the fact that she worships it and believes it to be a certain sign from god. All that culminates in a ? Ritual ? Sigrid is going to do unbeknownst to seroh but by the magic of the narrative seroh does find her and i think in the moment she'd be really mad, mostly out of confusion and slight betrayal but they dont really have the time to work that out in the moment so they get separated on unpleasant terms

Davey and Rodya:

13. Do they have any disdain/contempt for each other? How do they show it?

Anon ily. After the initial break up? Yes, a lot of disdain. On both sides. For Davey its about the feeling of disappointment in someone he cared forz and frustration about "what could have been" if rodya wasnt a stubborn asshole. For Rodya its about the betrayal, about the "how could he not understand me?", about the anger he felt that davey didnt want to come to a compromise ect ect. On daveys end those feelings do fade away with time, whole rodya after the break up is sooo bitter and salty its insane, they do go no contact though. BUT THEN THE EXPEDITION:))))) And well having to work with rodya again and having to see some of the tendencies in him from the past did stirr up things in davey but at this point he wasnt really angry, just annoyed at most sometimes. Rodya...its complicated. Although both of them never really let go of what they have i think that goes especially for rodya which makes it a little crazeys in my mind because yes hes still kind of bitter but also i think he would also see this as an opportunity to rebuild a relationship between them of any kind (quite selfishly) and THAT that does annoy davey a lot. But . I think he'd give in 🫶 and theyre both a little weird about it

20. What is their best memory together?

Ahhh omg i think its the holiday they took to hmmm italy? I always imagine italy i dont know why its a little over done haha but maybe it should be something more unique. Either way thats not whats so important .. Whats special about this holiday is that 1. It was the first big holiday they took in a long while so they were so happy to finally NOT WORK. 2. Thats when rodya proposes to davey and davey says yes. Verryyy stereotypical i know but oh well

21. What is their worst memory together?

Well. Not to be that guyyyy but everything about the break up? Especially because it happend not very long after the engagement believe it or not 😭 The break up they had was very outstretched because a lot of things went unspoken for too long mostly because either of them were "too busy to deal with it". Davey hated seeing what rodya was turning into despite his attempts to help him and rodya was mad at davey for not "seeing his perspective" and ect ect. Also. Uhhhhmmm dont tell them but their answer to that will change after the stories finale. Shit gets dark

I do feel Sigrid as Death would be a kind one. She’s there to make you feel better before she takes you. Example would be her meeting a child who is about to die and plays with them before they go with her.

I agree, she would be. She’s so sweet to the little ones in her family when everything goes wrong at the wedding—her getting them to safety and trying to reassure them everything was going to be alright when you can see the doubt in her eyes was heartbreaking. Also the scene with Hervor’s death, and the gentleness and compassion she shows her there. I imagine that’s quite like what she’d be in this scenario—especially after Hervor, wanting to ease the pain she felt when the Valkyries turned their backs on her for others.

A kindness to the dead—but it would hardly be a kindness for her.

I just imagine her watching tragedies like hers play out over and over again, and all she can do is try to comfort the victims of it, take them to their rest with as much gentleness as she can manage. But not just violent deaths; she comforts and receives all (indeed those nonviolent more often than not), never shaking the thought that all of these were too soon. I don’t know if she’d go numb to it all, or if she’d never lose that sense of grief—and honestly, I don’t know which would be worse.

YESSSSS! I read a great fic about those two and I loved it so much! (here is the fic)

"What made you ship it?": The fic, definitively. And, as usually: I just love Dwalin, man. There are a few ships I don't like, but aside from them, I really enjoy nearly everything with Dwalin in it.

"What are your favorite things about the ship?": Dís is always kind of a wildcard, because everyone pictures her differently and so it's always something new and interesting with her. And of course, Dwalin is in it, which makes everything 10 times better. And don't forget the complex dynamic thanks to royalty and also Thorin as the King. I just love complex dynamics.

"Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?": I think the ship in itself isn't that popular, so maybe shipping it is already the unpopular opinion?

Kinda need some more lore on the relationship between Sigrid and Bertram 👀

Absolutely I love them. So, to me, they’ve obviously done shows in this group before. Some of them are newer, some have been in more shows, as you’d expect. Bertram was late to joining the group because he’s just kind of an awkward guy, but he had the biggest crush on Sigrid from even before they first spoke. And now that they’re in the same group, he’s got an easy path to asking her out but…

He just fumbles it EVERY time.

This is like his second show with the players and the fifth for her. He has been trying to get the words out but he can’t. The first time he saw her in the ballgown he did faint.

She just genuinely found it adorable but also hilarious. She let him flounder for a while but then eventually she was the one to ask him out, because this guy would not have done it alone. They have such an awkward but genuinely sweet relationship.

We have joked that Alaric would interrogate both of them because that’s his brother and his best friend. He’s going to be protective.
